This photo shows the capet pad that was used for cushion
under the waterfall. All the brown is of course roots!
The water supply for the waterfall from the pump. Where
the Alantic Filter Falls had set.
This is the area for the new falls.
Water feed hose from pump and rocks from fall area
Another view of where falls were and rocks to left.
What a mess!
A closer view of the fall area and roots that caused
all the problem....and our VERY high water bills!
Alantic Filter Fall and some of falls liner
DAY TWO PHOTOS (2nd
day that pictures were taken...not actually day two of work)
Well, most of the area has been
cleared of most roots, padding, liner and rocks.
Construction in the new waterfall
area has begun as well. Doing demolition and construction will
keep me from getting bored! lol
A close up view of how the Alantic
Falls Filter will be placed. I'm taking no chances on root systems
this time. On each side there will be
a large rock. I will be able to
pull the rock out and spray Roundup under the falls to keep unwelcome
growth out!
Another view. The large rock in
the water will be repositioned once the new liner is in place
and set more upright. It was the one that
split the falls in the former area.
I've decided to make the old falls
a rock sitting area. I have plenty of large rocks that will make
a couple of steps then one to sit on.
The floating plants to the left
bottom will be thinned and trimmed for winter.
This is a overview of the work area.
Not sure yet how I will have the falls sitting. I'm thinking a
little straight then a slight turn on
the second drop to the pond. There
should be three drops. (hope it works)
Well, That's All Folks as Daffy
Duck would say.
I'll post more as work progresses.
One New Photo
Well, the picture below shows a
couple of missing trees! We are thinking this was part of the
root problem in the waterfall area.
They are gone. Two more will be
leaving once we get the pond/waterfall work finished. Our liner
should be here on Monday. Need a
few more blocks which I have stored
at our church.
Three of the trees we are removing
are Salvia Tress. They are in the Willow family. Not good since
they search out water....and it seems
cement.
The tree guys will be back next
week to cut the stumps to the ground and haul off the limbs and
brush. The red down arrows show the
Salvia Trees. The one to the side
was a red bud. Hated to see it go, but too close to house.
More later....stay tuned!
Well, later is here....
This is the sitting
area where the falls had been. The two large rocks on the back
and side work as a back and arm rest.
This is an overview
of the area. We will be able to walk from the sitting area to
the waterfall along the edge of the pond.
The stump near the
middle is where part of the roots had come from. They were BIG!
Two of the trees are gone and one
more to come out
as soon as the construction is done.
This is a closer
view of the sitting area before the gravel was put in.
A view from the
sidewalk to the house.
Sorry about the
picture, it was taken after dark. Gravel has been put in the sitting
area. Rocks that was around the waterfall is now at
the base of this
area.
October 6, 2011
Additional work
has been done. We have started work on the falls and have cut
and laid the pad for the liner.
Also the rocks are
been placed on the side and back that faces the road.
This is the side
near the location of the original falls. The water line from the
pump will go in the Alantic Falls through the block near the
pruners. It will
then run down to the pond next to the falls and hidden by rocks.
This was taken from
the porch in front of our living room windows.
A straight-on photo
from the sidewalk.

showing the start of rock work
Another view
We are finished
for today however tomorrow we will work all day on the project.
We 'hope' to have the liner in and test the falls.
Well, the liner
is on the falls however we used some silicone sealant near the
filter falls and it will need to cure for 24 hours. So no
test today. Will
do that on Sunday.
This is an overview
of what we did today. The hose from the pump was attached to the
filter falls and the liner put over the pad. We are
trying several different
rock formations. I have more ideas to try on Sunday.
This closer view
shows rocks scattered everywhere! The one in the pond at the base
of the falls needs to come back out...however....it weighs
a ton and I'll need
some strong guys to help with it. Otherwise...it stays where it
is.
One thing I noticed
in these two photos is from some angles, you can see the reflection
of the falls and rocks around the pond in the
water. I like that
and it was unexpected.
Sunday, October
9, 2011....last day of vacation for this week. Rain forcasted
for Monday and Tuesday so needed to make
hay while the sun
shined.
Additional rock
work on fall area
Those rocks are
'heavy' man!
Another view. After
this photo was taken more rocks were slid into the pond at the
base of the falls to cover the liner.
TEST! All went well for about 10 minutes
then I detected a leak. It was where the liner attaches to the
Atlantic Filter Falls. So, water turned
off and waiting
for it to dry out. shouldn't be too long as a lot of wind today
and just scattered clouds.
Another view while
testing...
Much more rock work
to do and adjusting of water flow. May use some black foam to
keep water over the rocks instead of running
under them. One
side is doing quite well, however the other is not what I want.
It's coming along
and won't be long until I can start on the landscaping and getting
the railroad back in shape. Looking forward to shots
of trains with the
falls in back!
