Continuing from Holly Springs we took Highway 7 northeast
to Bolivar, Tennessee where
we caught Highway 16 on in to Jackson. While this afforded
us the opportunity to see some
swamp areas, there was no place to pull off and safely
take photographs. We did pass a sign
that said, 'Ames Plantation'. About a mile down the
road we decided to turn around and follow
the road. One thing I had always wanted to see was
a plantation in the south. This was my
opportunity...and turned out to be a good choice. Had
we been able to be there the next day
we could have attended the 11th Annual Heritage Festival
& Antique Auction.
The following pictures were taken on the way to and
on the
Ames Plantation
at
Grand Junction, Tennessee
Yes, that is a cotton field....ready to harvest
Further down the road to the 'Headquarters' of the
Ames Plantation
One of the worker's houses.
An old cotton gin with cotton trailers. I had not seen
similar buildings for years. When I was growing up, we had a gin
similar in style to this one
about 2 blocks from my parent's home.
The red barn
In this building they were to have demonstrations in
ironing, darning, pea shelling etc.
Know what this building is?
Still thinking?
How about a blacksmith's shop
Barn were goat milking demonstration will be held
Main house
This last photo was taken shortly after we returned
to the main highway in a small community called Homes.
