We recently made a trip
to the Great Smoky Mountains - Cherokee Country.
While traveling we made stops at Holly Springs Mississippi,
Nashville Tennessee,
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Cherokee National
Forest, Bryson City
North Carolina, and Chattanooga Tennessee.
The following pictures were taken on that trip. They
are on a variety of subjects,
railroad, buildings, bridges and scenry. Captions have
been added to some photos.
We trust you will enjoy viewing them.
Hazen, Arkansas
The Hazen Depot. Once opeated by the Rock Island Railroad.
Now used by civic groups from time to time.
Another view showing UP Caboose 25501 and a speeder
on the north side of the depot.
Closer view of the speeder
This area may have been a shipping platform or warehouse.
Looking south
Don't ask! Actually we have no idea why this building
is labeled 'Mule Barn'. It would be interesting to know. It sits
on the west side of the depot.
Holly Springs, Mississippi
Holly Springs is a city that has many antebellum homes
that survived the Civil War. While we had little time there,
we did have the opportunity to see some of these beautiful
homes.
This is the Hugh Craft House - 1851 - Greek Revival
An interesting feature of this home is that coal was
inserted inside the walls. It is in need of repair as can be seen,
but still a
magnificant home.
The home above and below set facing each other with
a courtyard in the middle and circle drive. The above home is
the Walter Place Estate.
The entrance to a 15 acre botanical garden with walking
trails is between these two homes. Sadly it was closed during
our visit.
Above is the Montrose - 1858 - Greek Revival
Wakefield - 1858 Greek Revival
